Our Refuge in the Storm

    OUR REFUGE IN THE STORM

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
PSALM 27:1-14 (KJV)

The Psalmist David wrote often about help from our God. He, though called Beloved by God, knew first hand all about sin, war, backsliding, fear, grief, and the wrath of God. He also knew exactly WHO his SOURCE was and where to find help in time of need. David knew as we are learning that God IS our REFUGE.
He IS our LIGHT. He IS our SALVATION!!!
He IS the ONE who in time of trouble hides us in his PAVILION. He IS the one who hides us in THE SECRET OF HIS TABERNACLE*. He IS the one who sets us
upon a ROCK, who HIDES us in HIM! In fact He IS our ROCK!!!
He lifts our heads above our enemies. Even though we may be attacked for unknown reasons, HE is our DEFENSE. Though we are surrounded by those who attack from every side, He IS the one who fights for us. Did he not say? THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD? AHHHHH~ YES!!!
When we cry out to the Lord – He attends to that cry. He has even told us to CRY OUT !! CRY OUT!! Do you ever wonder WHY He tells us to cry out when He already knows what is happening? It is the humility and the acknowledgement that He alone can save us and rescue us. He wants our dependence on HIM. NOT on our fleshly attempts to fix things for ourself.
He wants us to seek His face. He wants us to plead for mercy and grace. He wants our prayers for help. The Psalmist David in the chapter above says, ”teach me…..” and then “hide not thy face from me”………..and again he says “deliver me….”
If King David, such a beloved of God, our precious JESUS’ ancestor……needed God this much………..(read each verse and hear his heart cries)…..how much more do WE need to do the same. This is a precedent set before us for us to see the way of salvation. deliverance, rescue, and help of any kind.
Today my focus was simply this.
Many of us are hurting, physically, emotionally, spiritually.
Some are backslidden to one degree or another – if you are not where you have been with the Lord – then you HAVE gone backwards.
Some have anger that they cannot release.
Some bitterness or resentment.
Some full of unforgiveness.
Some fear for financial needs.
Some homes are in the midst of falling apart.
Some are in the beginning to fall apart.
Children are breaking our hearts. Some have great need for healing!
Parents are not understanding.
Our churches are constantly needing a mediator.
Most of all, our nation is on the threshold of a mighty disaster.
So BELOVED READERS I SAY TO YOU TODAY.
TAKE MY HAND, COME WITH ME TO THE THRONE ROOM OF GOD.
Let us kneel together at His feet and plead only the BLOOD OF JESUS.
THEN ASK BOLDLY FOR WHAT WE NEED, EXPECTING HIS ANSWER.
WE KNOW HE TOLD US IN THE NEW TESTAMENT TO COME BOLDLY TO HIS THRONE TO FIND GRACE IN OUR TIME OF NEED.
Grace = favor that is not earned
Mercy and Love.
All await us as we with King David say
“The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear”

Note: An update on this writing. Today, March 9, 2009, I face the enemy myself as my husband’s physical condition since he had an angioplasty last month, has continued to go downhill. Today we see the doctor who has been out of town and will face some decisions and maybe more. I knew I needed to update this devotion so I chose one I had already written but so needed to read myself. I hope this speaks to you because it sure does to me. Thanks for reading and God touch each heart. Amen
